Redecking of Pedestrian Bridges

Project Update: Aug 13, 2018

Bethesda Bridge is complete and is OPEN as of this morning.  The contractor will move to the Glacial Drumlin Bridge on Aug 14th and begin that bridge in the afternoon of the 14th.  The closure of the Bike Trail will be from MacArthur Rd to College Ave.  The signs have been placed letting the users of the trail know the closure will begin on Aug. 15th.  The Bridge is expected to be open by Aug. 27th, 2018.  All dates are weather dependent.

The City of Waukesha will be re-decking 2 pedestrian bridges; 1 in Bethesda Park that spans the Fox River from Grede Park to Bethesda Park, the other along the Glacial Drumlin Bike Trail between College Ave and MacArthur Rd.

The original project was to replace the deck boards on both bridges only.  Once the contractor, Ford Construction, removed the boards, they discovered rusted steel. It was determined by a Structural Engineer that the steel needed to be replaced.  This was a significant cost increase to the project.  This change order went to the Board of Public Works for approval on July 19, 2018.  The steel was ordered the next day and the steel was scheduled to be delivered on August 10, then the construction could start again.  It will take 2 weeks to repair each bridge.
